Cosmetology students to host fashion show

The Tuesday evening show will include a parade of used prom dresses for sale, hors d’oeuvres prepared by the culinary students, vendors and various fundraising activities, all for a $10 entry fee.

The event will be centered around a Mardi Gras theme, with beads, masks and King cupcakes. Special prizes will be awarded to those who get the cupcake with a coin. There will also be special “Swag Bags” for the first 25 ticket holders who enter the day of the event, as well as special seating along the edge of the runway.

“We’re hosting the fashion show as a fundraiser for the cosmetology students to attend a hair show in New York City in March. They learn all the new techniques that are going on in the industry, so it’s like a free education,” Nicholson said.

There will be 200 tickets available, both in advance and at the door.

“Advance ticket sales are preferred, so we can adequately prepare,” said Trudy Nicholson, the cosmetology teacher at the school.

Nicholson said the cosmetology students had been thinking of doing a fashion show fundraiser for the past several years, but this is the first time they’ve actually been able to put one together.

“None of the prom shops wanted to loan dresses, so what we have are second-hand dresses from the girls’ closets that the girls are going to sell at a discount price and Eula’s in Connellsville has a few she is bringing in that the girls will model. We hope to have about 25. It should be about an hour-long fashion show,” Nicholson said.

In addition to providing an opportunity for the students to raise some money toward the transportation and hotel costs for the educational trip, the fashion show also gives them a chance to show off their skills. The cosmetology students will be doing the hair and make-up for all of the models in the show.

There will be a half hour before and after the fashion show to enjoy vendors selling items including jewelry, purses, cosmetics and other items, as well as to participate in various fundraising activities with prize baskets donated by area businesses. The event will run from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. Tickets are available by calling 724-626-0236, ext. 3114.
